A man from Laurinburg and his teenage daughter died in a car accident last week in Hoke County, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Roy Anthony Ayers, 45, and his daughter Cassie Marae Ayers, 17, were killed in the accident Tuesday, March 24.

The wreck happened on U.S. 401 between Wallace McLean Road and Crawford Wright Road, around 9:13 p.m. The Ayers’s vehicle was stopped in the roadway when a vehicle driven by Jonathan Spencer of Wildwood Drive in Raeford collided with them, according to the Highway Patrol crash report. No charges were filed.

Rescuers arrived on the scene to administer help, but Anthony Ayers and Cassie Ayers died of their injuries.

Anthony Ayers loved the outdoors, according to his obituary. He was an avid fisherman and Washington Redskins football fan who always had a smile on his face.

Cassie Ayers was a senior at Scotland County High School and was also nearing completion of her Pharmacy Tech certification, and had planned to continue her education to complete her degree as a pharmacist. She loved music, drawing and softball, and adored her friends, her obituary said.

The services were to be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to help the family with expenses to Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines.
