The family of George Floyd will hold a public viewing and private memorial service in Hoke County Saturday, June 6.
As widely reported, Floyd’s sister, Bridgette Floyd, lives in Hoke County. The family will hold a public viewing from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Cape Fear Conference B Headquarters (10225 Fayetteville Road, Raeford NC 28376.
The private memorial service will begin promptly at 3pm and will only be open to the family. Members of the public will be asked to leave after the public viewing.
Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin and several Hoke County Commissioners have been in contact with the family while planning for the memorial. Peterkin issued a statement Tuesday, asking that the public respect the Floyd family.
“As the Sheriff of Hoke County, I’m asking on behalf of the Floyd family for those who plan on attending the viewing/memorial service to be respectful to the sensitivity of the family’s time of grief. The memorial is about the life that Mr. George Floyd lived and this is a time to embrace the family with expressions of love and kindness,” Peterkin said in the statement. “I want to thank the Hoke County Board of Commissioners and all other agencies and businesses involved in coordinating this memorial service.”
