National Beta announced this week it has named Hoke County Schools a 2019-2020 National District of Distinction.
This award is given to those deserving districts who offer National Beta in all schools in their district, and who induct qualifying students in all eligible grades (4-12). Hoke County Schools is one of only 20 districts to receive this award nationwide.
“Through the exceptional efforts of district and school staff, club sponsors and deserving Beta members, Hoke County Schools has flourished since the district’s initial Beta
charter. This national award speaks highly of Hoke County School’s commitment to academic excellence, leadership development and service involvement, and illustrates their dedication to preparing students for college, and career readiness,” a press release said. “The students in this district understand the importance of these qualities and exemplify the Beta motto, Let Us Lead by Serving Others.”
According to Dr. Freddie Williamson, Superintendent of Hoke County Schools: “This is equity in action. We, in Hoke County Schools are taking actions locally to overcome institutional barriers and create opportunities so that each child has the tools and supports necessary to achieve their highest potential. Students’ identities do not predetermine their success in schools. Equitable resources including funding, programs, policies, initiatives and supports, which target each student’s unique background to guarantee that all students have equal access to a high quality education.”
Linden Cummings, the director of AIG and Advanced Studies, said, “It is my hope that our BETA club students would make a lasting impact as they help to shape Hoke County and the world for future generations.”
National Beta is the largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America. Since its beginnings in 1934, National Beta has been committed to providing students with a positive experience in a supportive manner in grades 4-12.
