Deputies with the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit arrested a man on drug trafficking charges after reportedly finding 14 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.

Investigators patrolling the area of Fayetteville Road conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, deputies reportedly noticed an odor of marijuana in the vehicle. Officers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and located 14 pounds of marijuana and an amount of U.S. cash.

Deputies arrested Luis Jesus Suarez, 35, of Miami, Florida on felony charges of trafficking marijuana by possession, trafficking marijuana by transportation and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substance. Officers also charged him with a misdemeanor of driving without a license, and a traffic citation for failure to maintain lane control.


Deputies arrested Suarez June 24 in the area of Fayetteville Road and Willis Circle. He received a $25,000 bond.
