The Raeford Police Department is investigating the death of a man who investigators say was the victim of a homicide.
A 911 call came in at 4:37 a.m. Monday in reference to the case. Police responded to a house on Saunders Street in Raeford and found Mathew Leon Peterkin, 41, dead behind the residence.
Raeford Police Chief Marc Godwin said Peterkin was apparently homeless at the time of his death. Law enforcement officers are investigating his death as a murder case.
“Right now we’re just trying to follow up on any and all possible leads,” Godwin said.
The Raeford Police Department reached out to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) for additional support while seeking answers in Peterkin’s death.
Anyone with information about Peterkin’s death is asked to contact the Raeford Police Department at (910) 875-4251.
