Wreck on Shannon Road injures one person, transport truck burns

A woman was injured and a tractor-trailer truck burned in an accident on Shannon Road Tuesday night in Hoke County, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

A woman driving a 2017 Hyundai passenger car on Shannon Road near Albert Currie Road, allegedly drove left of center in front of an oncoming Mountaire tractor-trailer truck hauling empty crates. The truck driver swerved to try to avoid the collision, but the two vehicles sideswiped each other, Highway Patrol Trooper Locklear said.

The tractor-trailer caught on fire and burned. The vehicle was a total loss. The truck driver was not injured.

The driver of the passenger car suffered injuries, and rescuers transported her to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. She was then taken to UNC Chapel Hill Hospital. Information on her current condition was not available, and the Highway Patrol has not yet released the names of the drivers involved in the accident.


The wreck happened around 10:21 p.m. Tuesday on the 5400 block of Shannon Road.
