A woman in Raeford was injured Tuesday afternoon when a man fired gunshots into a vehicle she and her two children and another adult were riding in at the time. Authorities have a suspect in custody on charges connected to the shooting.

The shooting happened on the 500 block of South Main Street in Raeford. Police were dispatched to the scene around 2:38 p.m. Tuesday.

Janice Yankana, Sean Haynes and Yankana’s two children, ages five and eight, left a house on South Main Street after an altercation with suspect Kevin Jwan Baldwin, police said in a press release. Yankana, Haynes and the children were in a vehicle leaving the scene when Baldwin allegedly opened fire on the vehicle.

The victims went to the MP Mart gas station on the corner of South Main Street and Palmer Street, where they called for help.

Emergency medical services and law enforcement responded to the gas station. Janice Yankana was transported to an area hospital where she was treated for injuries and released, Raeford Police Chief Marc Godwin said. Her two children and Hayes were not injured.

Police arrived at the scene of the shooting and pursued Baldwin, who fled on foot. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.

Baldwin, 24, of the 500 block of South Main Street, faces charged of one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle, one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was taken to the Hoke County Detention Center and held under a $55,000 secured bond
