Multiple people charged in drug busts

Investigators with the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office announced they have made several drug bust arrests in the last week.

Detectives executed a search warrant July 14 at a location on the 1500 block of McBryde Mill Road. During the search, officers reportedly located 25 dosage units of suspected morphine, drug paraphernalia and a firearm. Investigators took two people into custody

Deputies arrested Paul Pleasant, 52, of the 1500 block of McBryde Mill Road in Red Springs on charges including possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a felon, maintaining a drug dwelling and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers arrested Amy Peterson, 32, of the same address on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a felon.


Pleasant received a $50,000 secured bond and Peterson received a $10,000 secured bond.

Detectives conducted a traffic stop and probable cause search of a vehicle July 15 on North Hill Top Road. During the search they reportedly located approximately 100 grams of marijuana, a handgun and drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators arrested Vernon Lee Smith Jr., 21, of the 100 block of Dakota Drive on charges including possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, possession of firearm by a felon, maintaining a drug dwelling and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Detectives also arrested Sara Alsbrooks, 20, of the 2900 block of Dwelle Drive in Fayetteville on charges including possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, maintaining a drug vehicle, CCW and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Smith received a $50,000 secured bond and Alsbrooks received a $7,500 unsecured bond.

Road deputies conducted a traffic stop for speeding July 16 on Highway 401. Deputies reportedly located approximately four grams of suspected methamphetamine and a handgun during the traffic stop. Based on information and other evidence, officers obtained a search warrant for a location on the 100 block of Overlook Court.

During that search, deputies located approximately 15 grams of suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl and several firearms, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives arrested Scott Minor, 58, of the 100 block of Overlook Court in Raeford on charges including possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine, maintaining a drug dwelling, CCW and possession of drug paraphernalia. Minor received a $100,000 secured bond.
