Firefighters were able to rescue a family’s pets from a house fire over the weekend, but the family was left with nowhere to go after the flames destroyed their home.
A fire broke out Saturday afternoon at home in the Raeford Fields subdivision, located off of Rockfish Road. Fire departments responded to a call around 5:41 p.m. to put out the blaze, but the flames had already started showing on the outside of the house, Derek Baker of Hillcrest Fire Department said.
“There was already fire coming through the roof above the garage,” he said. Firefighters believe the fire started in the attic.
First responders were able to rescue three cats from the house and also retrieved some of the family’s personal valuables from the property. The house itself was a loss with the roof over the front part of the home burned away.
The residents were home at the time of the fire, but were not injured. One person was treated for dehydration while battling the fire.
Logan Sanders posted to her social media that her family lost their home in the fire. They were left trying to find a new place to stay, and need help replacing necessities destroyed in the fire.
“We all definitely need clothes, shoes, personal hygiene products,” Sanders said in a message Monday.
The family includes two adults and two young children, plus three cats and a puppy. Their clothing sizes are women’s size six pants, small to medium shirts, and size nine shoe; men’s size 34/32 pants, medium sized shirts, and size 11.5/12 shoe; toddler 2t/3t clothes, 3-4 toddler underwear, and size 10c shoes; and an infant size 12/18 month clothes, size 4 diapers, size 5c shoes.
The family needs toiletries including all personal hygiene products and baby wipes. They are also gratefully accepting monetary donations.
