Daycare worker arrested on child abuse charges

Raeford police have arrested a staff member at First Baptist Christian Academy in Raeford on allegations that she abused a child.

Investigators arrested Teisa Harris, 29, on two counts of child abuse and one count of assault on a child under 12 years of age.

Police said Harris was accused of allegedly grabbing two children and lifting them off the ground by their arms, before throwing them to the ground, and slapping one of the children on the back of the head when the child began to cry.

The Raeford Police Department has video footage of what happened, according to law enforcement. The video is not being released to the public at this time.


The incident allegedly occurred at 9:30 a.m. April 25. It was reported to police May 4, according to the department.

“On May 4, 2022 the Raeford Police Department received complaints of two children that were being mistreated by a staff member at a local day care facility,” the department said in a press release. “After further investigation it was determined that Teisa Harris had in fact mistreated and assaulted one of the children. She was processed into the Hoke County Detention Center.”

Harris was arrested Thursday, May 5. She was held under a $1,500 bond.
