Hoke County deputies arrested a man Tuesday afternoon for reportedly bringing a gun onto a middle school campus in his vehicle.
Investigators arrested Andre Lamont Grayman, no address given, on charges of possession of a firearm on a school campus and child abuse, the sheriff’s office said in a press release posted on Facebook.
Deputies responded to a report of a possible disturbance at Sandy Grove Middle School Tuesday, May 10 around 2:37 p.m., after students were released to go home, authorities reported. (Ed. Note: Middle schools in Hoke County release at 3:30 p.m., it was not immediately clear whether the time listed was an error in the press release or in the report.)
“Andre Lamont Grayman arrived on school campus confronting staff about a situation involving his kids. Mr. Grayman then began communicating with school officials when he then decided he was going to enter the school when told not too,” the press release stated.
Officials escorted Grayman out of the school. Deputies then detained him.
Sheriff’s office deputies searched Grayman’s vehicle and reportedly found a firearm with a loaded extended magazine. He was taken into custody on the listed charges.
“All students and staff were all reported safe and no injuries reported. Hoke County Sheriff’s Office will continue to protect all citizens and the youth of this county. Our youth are our future and this agency will continue to go above and beyond to serve our youth in every positive capacity!” the law enforcement agency stated.
