Because Juneteenth (June 19) falls on a Sunday this year, Sandhills Community College will celebrate the holiday on Thursday, June 16. The public is invited to join students, staff, and faculty from 3-6 pm on the patio and lawn at Dempsey Student Center in Pinehurst.
A few of the happenings will be the performance of The Negro National Anthem, ushering of ancestors, spoken word performances, storytelling, African dancers, a DJ playing genres of Black music, games and activities for children, and Black-owned vendors and food trucks. Vendors will be selling African clothing, jewelry, caps, t-shirts, soaps, and candles.
Fall Semester approaches
The 16-week curriculum/college credit fall semester and the first eight-week session begins on August 15. The second eight-week session begins on October 12. Students can take a mix of full-semester classes alongside eight-week sessions. Representatives from SCC will be available to discuss programs, financial aid, and the enrollment process with visitors.
Apply to attend SCC from the link at www.sandhills.edu and apply for financial aid if assistance is needed. To receive funds in hand to pay fall semester tuition, information should be submitted by July 14. After that date, applications will still be accepted, but completion by July 14 assures that the FAFSA will be processed in time.
Continuing Education classes begin throughout the semester, with most skills and technical courses starting in August.
CCP Classes for High School Students
Local high school students can take classes at no cost at SCC when a junior and senior. High school students and their parents can learn more about the Career and College Promise classes and pathways at this event.
Students successfully completing four CCP classes qualify for two years of tuition fully paid through the Sandhills Promise. Visitors can learn more about the Promise at the June 16 event.
