The Rockfish volunteer community board is hosting a meet and greet this month so voters can get to know the candidates running for local office before the election in November.
The event is set for Thursday, September 29 beginning at 7 p.m. It will be held at Brownie’s, which is where the community board meetings are held, located at 2950 Lindsay Road.
“We’ve extended an invitation to all those that are running for public office in Hoke County, whatever they’re running for,” organizer Larry Chason said.
The candidates will have five minutes, timed, to speak about themselves and their platform. There will not be a question-and-answer session from the audience at the meet and greet due to time constraints.
Chason said the community board plans to hold a second event in October where he will ask prepared questions. That event will be Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m. at the same location.
“We just want to familiarize the people, and then we’ll come back in October and I’ll have a panel of questions that I’ll ask,” he said.
The volunteer board has held several similar events in the past and found that they were popular, Chason said. The public is invited to attend the upcoming meet and greets. The events will also be livestreamed on the Rockfish volunteer board’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/rockfishboard.
Chason requested that all candidates running for office in Hoke County who wish to participate, please be at the location by 6:35 p.m. the night of the event in order to sign up.
