Hoke County Board of Elections Director Towanna Jackson warned of a scam going around trying to get people to click a fake link to determine whether they are still registered to vote. There is a legitimate way to check your voter registration online, but it’s not the link being shared in the scam, Jackson said. Voters can check voter registration at the State Board of Elections website https://vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/.
The elections director said she had received phone calls from concerned relatives about a card being mailed to their residence about voter registration. The handwritten card claimed to be from the North Carolina NAACP.
“Most of the people that have been targeted are deceased,” Jackson said in an email Tuesday.
Anyone with questions about voter registration can contact the Hoke Board of Elections at (910) 875-9062.
