Deputies with the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Thursday in connection with a fatal shooting at a gas station earlier in the day.

Lares Santwan Blue, 31, of Hoke County was shot and killed, Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said. Deputies arrested Willie Davis McArn Jr., 31, on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting.

The shooting apparently happened during a fight at the Lucky Stop convenience store on the corner of Rockfish Road and US 401 Business. The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

“What we know right now, there was a confrontation between the victim and possibly two suspects, but we have one shooter,” Peterkin said at the scene. “It ended up with a fight. The investigation right now shows that the suspect shot the victim while they were fighting. One ended up on the ground, the victim ended up on the bottom and some shots were fired.”

Peterkin described the shooting as “senseless.”
