A man fled from authorities Sunday after allegedly murdering his wife in Rockfish, according to Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin.

Investigators caught and arrested the suspect in Forsyth County. Law enforcement arrested Donald McMillian of the 9800 block of Rockfish Road in connection with his wife’s death. Investigators accused McMillian of killing his wife, Geovanna Bowden McMillian.

The sheriff’s office got the call about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Peterkin said. Investigators learned that McMillian had fled the scene. Forsyth County authorities took McMillian into custody, and local deputies were en route to bring him back to Hoke County.

There were two small children who were not involved and are now in safe hands with family members, Peterkin said.

Authorities believe the murder was a result of domestic violence. Law enforcement was aware of a history of domestic violence at that residence, the sheriff said.
