Veterans Service canceled due to pandemic

Home News Veterans Service canceled due to pandemic

The annual Hoke County Veterans’ Day service held in front of the Hoke County Courthouse will not be held this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“COVID-19 has caused this country and Hoke County to rethink veteran’s

Day activities. As veterans we regret this announcement,” according to a statement from the program organizers.

“The current outside restriction assembly of 50 people has required veterans to cancel this year’s Veteran Day Program. The normal assembly, which is 100-plus people, would violate Governor Cooper’s policy and we are asked to follow restrictions of assembly. Hopefully, Year 2021 will allow more normalcy,” the statement said.

The event is one of many canceled in 2020. The North Carolina Fall Festival, Raeford-Hoke Hometown Christmas and the new First Fridays from the Downtown Raeford Business Association (DRBA) were among the other local events shuttered for 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
