A man from Raeford was shot and killed in Fayetteville Sunday night, and two people have been arrested in connection with the case, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department were dispatched around 11:13 p.m. Sunday to the area of Morganton Road near South Ingleside Drive in Fayetteville, in reference to shots fired in the area. Authorities arrived on the scene to find an unresponsive man in the road. He was determined to be dead at the scene, according to a press release from Fayetteville police.
The Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit announced Monday afternoon they had identified the victim as Michael Payne, 50, of Raeford. Officers notified Payne’s next of kin before releasing his identity.
Investigators also noted that Payne’s vehicle, a 2010 Subaru, was stolen during the crime but has since been recovered.
Authorities arrested Joseph Minacapelli, 30, of the 2700 block of Creek Meadows Place in Fayetteville on charges of felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony possession of stolen property, felony alter/destroy criminal evidence, felony possession of a firearm by a felon and felony concealment/failure to report a death. Minacapelli was taken into custody and held under a $527,000 secured bond.
Detectives also arrested Courtney McClanahan, 29, of Parkton on charges of felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony possession of stolen property, felony alter/destroy criminal evidence and felony concealment/failure to report a death. McClanahan was taken into custody and held under a $200,000 secured bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
Authorities reported that the charges could be updated, pending an autopsy.
