A teenager was struck by a car and killed just inside the Hoke County line near Robeson County late last month, according to law enforcement.
Jeremiah Deese, 17, of Maxton died Saturday, January 30 after being hit by car while walking in the road in the area of Wilson Road near McNair Road, reports said. Deese was hit and killed shortly before 10 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Jazmine Scott, 23, of Maxton hit him. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol charged Scott with misdemeanor death by vehicle in the accident.
Deese was born August 28, 2003 in Scotland County to mother Teresa Deese, according to an obituary. He enjoyed swimming, basketball, video games and shopping, and loved spending time with his family. He attended True Gospel Holiness Church and Friendly Holiness Church. He is survived by his mother; brothers, John Deese of Maxton, Travis Page and Seth Deese, both of Lakeview, South Carolina; along with a host of loving aunts, uncles, and many friends. A walk-through viewing followed by a graveside service was held February 4 at Little Mission Holiness Church.
