The News-Journal and the EKOH Magazine won five awards last week in the North Carolina Press Association’s annual contests.

The EKOH Magazine won first and second place in Magazine or Niche Publication Division A in the 2022-2023 News, Editorial and Photojournalism Contest. Newspaper Publisher Jessica Hendrix Brown won first and third place in Entertainment Ad Division A for advertising design, in the North Carolina Press Association’s 2022-2023 Best Ad Contest. News-Journal Editor Catharin Shepard won second place in General News Reporting Division A in the 2022-2023 News, Editorial and Photojournalism Contest.

The awards were announced earlier this year and embargoed until the N.C. Press Association’s annual convention and awards banquet, held last week at the Sheraton in Raleigh. This year marked the NCPA’s 150th anniversary.

The News-Journal has brought home dozens of awards from the NCPA contests in the past 15 years, including awards for General Excellence and Community Service.
